Who is Dr Peter Siko?
“Dr. Siko, a devoted family man, walks humbly, lives according to high moral standards and values everyone he meets” is how one of his colleagues describes him.
He is a professional member of the Rural Doctors Association of South Africa (RUDASA); South African Medical Association (SAMA); and the College of Medicine of South Africa (CMSA).
During his studies, Dr Siko participated and worked towards improvements in the society and served two terms as Secretary General of the MEDUNSA Student Representative Council (SRC), Media Officer and member of the MEDUNSA SRC Clinic Project. After his studies as medical doctor he continued these extra ordinary gifts of leadership by being an Intern Representative at Klerksdorp/Tshepong (KT) hospital complex, JUDASA North West Provincial Chairperson in 2005-2006; and the SAMA North West Provincial Representative.
He started his career in the North West Province since 1995 as a professional nurse at Rustenburg Hospital, now Job Shimankane Tabane moving to K/T complex as a medical intern and community service doctor where he completed his Diploma in Obstetrics.
His leadership qualities were recognised when he became a clinical manager for both Ventersdorp and Potchefstroom Hospitals.
He completed his Master of Medicine in Family Medicine with Wits University in 2016. He also recently completed his Diploma in Occupational Health.
He strongly believes in a Bio-Psycho-Social approach by referring patients to members of the multidisciplinary team like dieticians, dentists, physiotherapist, psychologists and other medical specialists and allied health professionals.
He received various awards and honours throughout his career, including the Best Community Service Doctor in 2006 K/T/P/W Hospital Complex; 10 Years Long Service Award from the Department of Health North West Province; and the MEDUNSA SRC DEDICATION AWARD 2003.
Besides his formal medical training he finds it important to keep up to date with the latest medical developments and has also completed further ultrasound training; clinical HIV management; and COHSASA Executive Management.
